The Lord called my husband to pastor a new church plant forty minutes away from our home of 17 years. We sold the house we raised our four babies in, and were sent out from the church we had been saved and trained up in. Talk about an emotional time! During the last service we attended there, our pastor spoke these words over us: 1Thessalonians 5:24~Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. That verse has been a spiritual booster shot of confidence and comfort as we face the unknowns of church-planting. It reminds me that God is faithful in the fearful things of life.
We have been in our new place for about three months now. It feels like home, and everyone seems to be adjusting well. We are settled, meeting people, and doing the work of the ministry. God is faithful to answer prayers for grace and peace during this transition time, and has confirmed time and again that this is exactly where he wants us to be.
Remembrance builds faith
When I unpacked our office, I came across a prayer journal from the first year of our walk with Jesus. My husband and I were fresh out of the world. Neither of us raised in a Christian home, and we didn’t really know anything about the Bible. Everything was fresh and new and we soaked it up like sponges. It was a blessing to reminisce on where God had brought us from. That remembrance builds our faith for the future.
In times of transition, it’s tempting to look back on all you’re losing or leaving behind, like Lot’s wife in Genesis 19:26. But God wants us to remember what He’s done before and trust that He’ll do it again.
1Corinthians 1:9~ God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
God is faithful to bring light into our darkness
In that old prayer journal, I found prayers for God to use our family in a mighty way for His glory. I prayed for my husband to be a godly man, and even a pastor or missionary someday. I also prayed that God would use me in ministry to women, to teach the Bible, and make disciples.
It took years, but God is faithful, and he answered those prayers because they were lined up with His will. I find it a little surreal that God called us to this ministry, knowing the darkness that defined our lives before Christ.
We were selfish, prideful, and battled addictions. But God called us out of that darkness into his marvelous light and sanctified us for His service.
We’re not perfect, or spiritual giants or anything, just ordinary people with an extraordinary God. We love the Lord and we’re surrendered to His will for our lives, and He is faithful to give us what we need to glorify Him.
Pray without ceasing
No matter where you’ve been, or what you’ve done, God can use you if you ask him to. He is a miracle-worker and a waymaker, and he specializes in transforming messes into masterpieces.
There are no lost causes with God, and that includes your spouse too. If they aren’t walking with Jesus, pray without ceasing for them! Enlist trusted prayer warriors to join you in the battle for their souls. Fight the enemy on your knees. When it looks like all hope is gone, pray through it, and trust God.
2Thessalonians 3:3~ But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
This is a great book on prayer, I highly recommend it! Fervent by Priscilla Shirer, A Woman’s Battle Plan for Serious, Specific, and Strategic prayer.
Confident in the Call
In times of transition, like church-planting, there will be difficult times, so it’s important for me to be sober and not get discouraged or defeated. One way to do that is to remember that God is faithful and we are called here.
When I can’t see what God’s doing, God is faithful and we are called. When I don’t have the answers, God is faithful and we are called. And when I’m lonely, God is faithful and we are called. Even if no one else is there but Jesus, God is faithful and we are called.
As I repeat that mantra, fear and doubt vanish, and grace empowers me. It will work for me and it will work for you, so give it a try the next time you feel overwhelmed with stressful circumstances.
Believers are called to salvation, sanctification, and service, and God is faithful to answer prayers and supply our needs every step of the way. Be confident in the call of God on your life, pray without ceasing, and remember the faithfulness of God in the past to be faithful yourself in the fearful transitions of life.
Lamentations 3:21-23~ This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion fails not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Psalm 4:3 Know that the LORD has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him – Just what I needed to hear today. God is so good!
Amen!
God is faithful, indeed! There were times in my life I didn’t understand God’s plan for my life, or why certain things happened, but now I understand that is part of faith. I trust Him to lead and that allows me to lower my stress. As a foster-parent, that also gives me hope that my faith in Him will have God watching over children when they are no longer in our home. Thank you for the beautiful post!
