This year is coming to a close, and a new one is on the horizon. It’s a time of reflection and renewal, planning and prioritizing. For some of us, it’s an exciting time with fresh possibilities, a clean slate, and a new beginning. But it can also be a source of anxiety and fear of the unknown. As a fresh chapter in the story of your life is beginning, you can have peace as you trust God to write your story.
I know this to be true because I’ve experienced that perfect peace myself. When I reflected on this year, I was tempted to chalk it up as wasted time. It was a tough year marked by distractions and drama that left me depleted and depressed. My unmet goals are disappointing, but it wasn’t in vain. Everything God allows in the lives of his children is purposeful. He’s always growing us, teaching us, and preparing us for the next season.
Jeremiah 29:11~ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Instead of focusing on the losses, I turned my attention to all that I had learned from the various trials. God taught me so much. But the most important lesson I learned was that no matter what it looks like, God is always at work. And I can trust Him to write my story. There are so many reasons I have this confidence, and why you should, too. Here are just 5 of them:
5 Reasons You Can Trust God to Write Your Story
- God is Trustworthy (Deuteronomy 32:4, Psalm 18:30-32)
- He is Faithful (Deuteronomy 7:9, 1Thessalonians 5:24)
- God is Good (Psalm 86:5, Psalm 119:68)
- He is Sovereign (1Chronicles 29:11-12, Psalm 103:19)
- God is Omniscient (Isaiah 46:9-10, Psalm 139)
The scriptures are loaded with stories of God’s ability to save, shield, and strengthen his people. Time after time, the Lord made provision for His beloved before their need. That’s what we call providence, or foresight.

In their new book, You can trust God to write your story, Embracing the Mysteries of Providence, Nancy and Robert Wolgemuth describe providence this way: “God goes before us. He sees and knows everything before it even happens. And He makes provision for whatever we will need at that time.”
This is the first book that the Wolgemuths have written together, and it is wonderful. Filled with biblical accounts, personal stories, and actual testimonies, You can trust God to write your story is such a helpful tool to explain the providence of God. I loved it!
There were so many parts that resonated with me, but none more than the testimony of LeRoy Wagner in Chapter 8- You can trust God when you lose your health. He suffers from debilitating nerve pain that forced him out of pastoral ministry. He says, “We don’t know how this is going to turn out. And we may never know why He does what He does, but we know that it will be good, and we keep trusting Him for that.” As someone who deals with chronic pain daily, I could relate to his story and was encouraged by his faith.
If you’re going through a stressful season, I highly recommend getting this book because it is a faith builder and resolve strengthener!
Will you trust God to write your story?
I pray your heart is filled with hope and joy as this new year approaches. Remember that if you’re a believer in Christ, you are in the loving care of the Almighty God. A perfect heavenly Father who is trustworthy, faithful, good, sovereign, and omniscient. You can trust Him with your life, and you can trust Him to write your story.
Psalm 34:8~ O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
