Did you know that there is a difference between the will of God and the plan of God? The plan of God is unique to the gifting and calling of the individual. God’s will, on the other hand, is the same for all of mankind and is revealed in his word.
The will of God revealed:
The will of God was the topic of my latest post for Pray with Confidence, the website that helps busy women overcome prayer obstacles. You can click on the link below to read the entire article:
19 Bible Verses that Reveal the Will of God
God doesn’t want us to wander aimlessly through life. He wants us to be confident in our calling, and pursue the purpose he has given us to preach the gospel, make disciples, and glorify God in all we do.
Learning those 19 scriptures will help you to discern if you are in the will of God or not, and make adjustments accordingly.
Discerning God’s direction
I can’t stress enough the need for spiritual discernment in our turbulent times. We must be sober-minded, focused, filled with the Spirit, and filter everything through the truth of scripture. It is so easy to get swept away by the tide of political or social trends, but we have to do our research and make sure who we follow or support has biblically sound beliefs. If not, then we have to turn away from them or run the risk of being outside the will and plan of God.
Just because we feel strongly about a person, an idea, or a plan, doesn’t mean that it is from the Lord. Our emotions will lead us astray because they can be so potent. But feelings are not facts.
God will show you his plan for your life through his Spirit, his word, his people, open and closed doors, wise counselors, preaching, and circumstances. But the will of God is always revealed in His word, it is never a mystery what God desires for each one of us. Being sober-minded will help you to discern if your emotions are leading you, or if the Spirit of God is.

Seek the Lord to know God’s will for your life
Psalm 105:4 KJV ~ Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.
The Lord wants us to be Spirit-led and not self-willed. He will direct our paths when we turn to Him for guidance. Seek His face in prayer, and in the scriptures. Proverbs 3:5-7
God’s thoughts are not naturally our thoughts unless we are renewing our mind with the word of God. When we do get God’s mind on a subject, our decision-making is so much simpler. Romans 12:2
God has also given us the people of God to pray with us, give wise counsel, and confirm God’s will and plan for our lives. Utilize these three gifts from the Lord- His word, His Spirit, and His people, to be in his will and follow his plan for your life.
Obey God’s will for His glory
The choices we make in life have eternal consequences or rewards, so we have to choose carefully, prayerfully, and wisely. When we do decide to obey God’s will and plan for our life, we must do it with the right heart attitude, and wait patiently for the fruit of it.
Ephesians 6:6 KJV ~ Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
Hebrews 10:36 KJV ~ For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
1John 2:17 KJV ~ And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
