6 Benefits of Bible Study

About three years ago, God directed me to begin this blog with the intent to encourage and equip women with the truth of God’s word. I have written about various topics for Christian women, including biblical womanhood, sober-mindedness, and biblical discipleship. But until recently, I haven’t written much on Bible study itself. Since Bible study is such an integral part of my life, I think it deserves some more attention, so I’ve decided to share some benefits of Bible study, and a new resource I think you’ll love.

A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education. ~ Theodore Roosevelt

Bible study has been life-changing for me. It renews my mind, cleanses my heart, and matures my faith. Studying the Bible reveals my flaws and foolishness, and gives me a holy standard to live by. Through Bible study, I gain a deeper knowledge of God and love for him.

I could go on for days about the benefits of Bible study, but for this post, I’ll just give you 6.

6 Benefits of Bible Study

  1. Bible study grows our faith.
  2. It increases our knowledge of God.
  3. Deepens intimacy with Him.
  4. Bible study gives us wisdom and understanding.
  5. It equips us to share our faith and invest in others.
  6. Bible study brings strength and guidance for life.

Bible study is vital to our spiritual growth and maturity. In my post How to Study the Bible in 7 Simple Steps, I break down inductive Bible study into manageable pieces, so the process isn’t overwhelming. And then in 7 Simple Bible Study Tips, I gave you some tips on how to approach the Bible to eliminate doctrinal error and give you confidence in your biblical beliefs.

They have similar titles, but different content, so be sure to check those out if you haven’t already. I also suggest printing the steps and the tips out to refer back to in your personal Bible study time until they become second nature.

Forget Not His Benefits

I loved going through the Forget Not His Benefits Bible Study on Psalm 103:1-5, because it’s one of my favorite Psalms. There are beautiful reminders of God’s salvation, mercy, forgiveness, and sovereignty in this psalm, and it blesses my soul!

This 1-Hour Bible study from Sojo Academy made me recall the many benefits the Lord bestows on me, and how he has blessed me abundantly. It gave me some structure to keep me from getting distracted in my Bible study and prompted praise for my King.

I encourage you to check out this awesome resource from Sojo Academy, and I hope it’s as much a blessing to you as it was to me!

6 Benefits of Bible Study

Why don’t we study the Bible?

I think the most common reason why we don’t study the Bible is that it takes time, and that is a scarce commodity these days. But the truth is, we make time for what is important to us. So if it doesn’t make the schedule for our day, we need to do a heart check and re-examine our priorities and purpose, because learning God’s word is essential to becoming godly women who bring God glory.

4 common reasons why we don’t study the Bible:

  1. Lack of time
  2. Laziness
  3. Learning disability
  4. Lack of interest

Bible study has to be a priority in our lives, so we can not just know what the Bible says, but also what it means, and how to properly apply it. Deception is all around us and will continue to get worse as the day of the Lord approaches. Believers must be armed with truth and stand strong against the wiles of the devil by knowing sound doctrine, living it out, and teaching it to others.

Arriving at that point of maturity begins with studying the Bible for yourself.

Let go of the excuses and learn God’s word. Bible study isn’t just a benefit for you, but a blessing for others as well!

2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV ~ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

  1. This was very helpful. Thanks for sharing. When we remember that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God, it helps us reexamine our perspectives and rearrange our priorities to make times for what really matters. Many blessings to you!
