Hi, my name is Annie McGuire, the writer and designer behind Daily His Disciple. Before I share my beliefs with you, let me tell you a little about me. I am a pastor’s wife, mom of four, granny to 3 sweet babies, a ministry leader, and Bible teacher. I love reading, studying, and teaching God’s word! I’ve been walking with Jesus since 2008, and love him with all my heart. (Here’s my testimony.) My desire is to bring Him glory in all I do, whether that’s taking care of my family, keeping my house clean, or ministering to women.
This website was God’s idea. He laid it on my heart and confirmed it over and over again, but it took me months to begin, because of my fear of failure, and insecurities. After much prayer, wise counsel, and encouragement, I obeyed God and launched Daily His Disciple in 2017.
God has grown me in so many areas as I minister to His women through this blog. It has been such a blessing!
My Beliefs
In this day and age of prosperity preachers and self-help Christianity, it’s more important than ever to do our research and find out what a person believes before we follow them. We need to exercise spiritual discernment so we don’t unknowingly support false doctrine. Because of this, I am going to share with you some of my beliefs. That way you know exactly where I stand on key doctrinal points.
Sound doctrine is something I will stand on and defend all the days of my life, so I’ve included some of the scriptures that birthed each of my beliefs. If you have a different viewpoint, I encourage you to read those verses, look at them, in context, and then do the same for your beliefs to see which is biblically sound. Even though it’s hard, we must discard any beliefs that do not line up with scripture. The Bible must be the final authority for every belief and choice we make.
My beliefs about the Bible:
- The Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible, word of God. Prov. 30:5-6, Ps.119:142, 151, John 17:17, 2Tim. 3:16-17
- God is the author, writing it through more than 40 men who were directed by the Spirit of God. 2Peter 1:20-21
- It has been preserved throughout history and is eternal. Isa.40:8, Ps. 119:160, Matt. 24:35, 1Pet.1:25
- God’s word is the source of truth and wisdom, therefore it should govern our lives. Ps. 119:105, Prov. 2:6
My beliefs about mankind:
- No one is a “good person”, regardless of how generous or kind they may be. Ps. 14:1-3, Matt. 19:17, Rom. 3:12, Rom. 3:23
- People are born sinners because of Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden. We sin because we are sinners, we are not sinners because we sin. “Sinner” is our identity before salvation. Rom. 5:12, 19, Gen. 3:6, 1John 1:8-10
My beliefs about sin:
- Sin is the transgression of the Law. 1John 3:4, James 2:9-11
- All unrighteousness is sin. 1John 5:17
- Sin separates us from God. Isa.59:2
- The wages of sin is death. Rom. 6:16, 23, James 1:15
My beliefs about God:
- God is sovereign, and always in control. He has supreme power, authority, and dominion over all of creation. 1Chron. 29:11-12, Job 42:2, Ps. 103:19, 115:3, Isa. 46:9-10, Dan. 4:35, Col. 1:16-17, 1Tim. 6:15
- God is good. 1Chron. 16:34, Ps. 25:8, 107:1
- He is light and love. John 3:16-17, Rom. 5:8, 1John 1:5, 4:8, 16
- God is triune, consisting of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Trinity is equal in status as God, working together as One, with differing roles. Deut. 6:4, Matt. 28:19, John 10:30, 1John 5:7
- He is holy. 1Sam. 2:2, Ps. 99:5,9, Isa. 6:3, Rev. 4:8
- God is faithful. Deut. 7:9, 1Cor. 1:9, 10:13
My beliefs about Jesus:
- Jesus is the Son of God, born of a virgin, who lived a sinless, perfect life. Matt. 1:20-23, 2Cor. 5:21, 1Pet. 2:22-24, 1John 3:5
- He died on the cross for the sins of the world, was buried, and rose again from the dead on the third day. Luke 24:46-47, Phil 2:5-11, 1John 2:2
- Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father after his resurrection and intercedes on our behalf. Rom. 8:34, 1Tim. 3:16, Heb. 7:25, 12:2
- He will return to execute judgment upon the wicked on the Earth. Acts 1:9-11, Rev. 1:7
My beliefs about Holy Spirit:
- The Holy Spirit was active in creation, brings conviction of sin, and teaches us the word of God. Gen. 1:2, John 14:16-17, 16:13
- He is also the Comforter, who comes alongside of us and helps us walk with the Lord. John 14:26, 15:26, 16:7
- He gives gifts unto all believers, and there is fruit when we yield to Him. 1Cor. 12:4-7, Gal. 5:22-23
My beliefs about the gospel:
- The gospel is the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 1Cor.15:1-8
- It is the means by which sinners can be reconciled to God, and receive salvation. Rom. 1:16, 10:8-13
- The gospel is to be preached in all the world until the end of the world. Mark 16:15, Matt. 28:19-20, Matt.24:14
My beliefs about salvation:
- Salvation is by grace through faith alone, not dependent on any works (i.e. being/doing good) or religious acts (i.e. baptism, the sacraments, giving). Eph. 2:8-10
- We are born-again to eternal life and given new life in Christ when we repent and believe the gospel. John 3:15-17, Rom.6:23, 2Cor. 5:17, 1John 2:25
- You CANNOT lose your salvation because it is an eternal gift (Rom. 6:23); you didn’t do anything to earn it (Eph. 2:8-9) so you can’t do anything to keep it or lose it. And nothing can take you out of the hand of God. John 19:27-29
