Live Confidently in Christ

I hate to admit it, but I struggle with insecurity. Even though I have studied it out, and have taught about having security in Christ, I still have my moments of anxiety, doubt, and uncertainty. If I am not walking in the Spirit, those thoughts and feelings of insecurity will rule me. It will cloud me with discouragement for days. That is not how God wants me or you to live. He wants us to live confidently in Christ.

In every situation and circumstance of your life, God is always doing a thousand different things that you cannot see and you do not know. ~ Nancy Demoss Wolgemuth

Clearing the Fog of Insecurity to Live Confidently in Christ

When we are feeling insecure, it’s because we are believing lies. Lies like:

  • I’m not good enough.
  • I’ll never get it right.
  • I can’t do this.
  • I don’t know enough.

The world, flesh, and Devil will always draw us into discontentment and doubt about who we are in Christ, and what He can do. We have to know and apply the truth to clear the fog of lies and live confidently in Christ. Truths like:

  • God started the work in me, and he will finish it. (Phil.1:6)
  • Comparing myself with others is not wise. (2Cor.10:12)
  • I can’t, but Jesus can, and He lives in me. (1Thess.5:24)
  • The Spirit of God is my teacher and will continue to reveal the truth to me as I study the scriptures. (John 14:26, 2 Tim. 2:1)

When I look up these verses and pray for God to renew my mind and strengthen my heart, then I feel more confident in Christ and His calling on my life. He doesn’t give me more self-confidence, but Savior-confidence.

Live Confidently in Christ

Spiritual stability from the scriptures

The problem with insecurity is that my eyes are on myself and my abilities, instead of on Christ’s. Apart from him, I am nothing and I can do nothing, but with him, I can do all things. (John 15:5, Phil.4:13).

If you’re struggling with insecurity, then write the areas that you feel the most inadequate. Look up verses that address that, write them out, and memorize them. (I use the search feature on blueletterbible.org) Pray about each one of those things, and let God change the way you think and feel.

A fantastic way to be secure in who we are in Christ is to make a word cloud from various keywords in the scriptures that plainly tell us our true identity. I did this one at wordclouds.com:

wordcloud

It’s not fancy, but it’s the truth about who we are in Christ, according to God’s word. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are chosen, accepted, beloved, forgiven, and free. We are daughters of the King of kings and Lord of lords, so let’s hold our heads high and live like it!

Live Confidently in Christ

If you need help out of the fog of insecurity today, clear some time in your schedule to just sit down with Jesus. Let him remind you of the truth of the scriptures. Saturate your mind, soothe your soul, and rise empowered to pursue the passion He has placed in your heart today!

You can live confidently in Christ today, when you learn Him, lean on Him, and let Him be your refuge and strength. Jesus loves you and wants you to know Him and trust him. The more time you spend investing in your knowledge of Christ, the more secure you will be in Him, and the less insecure you will be. ♥

Psalm 46:1 KJV ~ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

  1. I really needed to read this! I get so caught up in my daily routine that I just forget to set aside time for God and let him soothe my soul. This blog post has let me regain some focus on doing just that. Thank you for posting! 🙂

  2. Yaasssss. We just discussed this verse at my women’s bible study on Thursday. We are studying Disciplines of a Godly Woman – and we are definitely using Phil 1:6 to get us through.

  3. Feeling humbled, encouraged, and a little “warrior-like”….. praise be to God for His word and His women who proclaim it! Good job!

  4. I am glad to read more posts on Spiritual Growth. I agree it is important to be confident in Christ. He was confident in his sacrifice for us. We need to be confident in what he can do for us as well.
