Find Peace in Chaos: Post for Pray with Confidence

Chaos.  That is the one word I would use to describe the state of the world around us.  Everywhere you look there is confusion and craziness. The devil is reveling in all this disorder and dysfunction. These difficult times can take their toll on our mental health and overall wellbeing as the instability and insecurity increases. But we can have peace in the chaos when we look to Jesus to calm the emotional storm within us.

I wrote about finding peace in the chaos at Pray with Confidence, a website for helping women overcome prayer obstacles, where I am one of the regular contributors. In this article, I share my own struggle with stressful situations in my life, and what the Lord uses to bring peace to my troubled heart and mind.  There are really two things that I have to remember in order to find peace in the chaos.  You can read more about that here:

Finding Peace in Chaos

Book and Movie Recommendations

With summer in full swing, it is a great time to start a new book!  I am currently reading two books alternately, and loving both of them!  Fervent, by Priscilla Shirer, is teaching me to have a serious, specific, and strategic prayer life. You Can Still Wear Cute Shoes, Lisa McKay, is a book written by a pastor’s wife, with testimony and tips on how to thrive as a minister’s wife. If you are married to a pastor, you know how hard it is to get resources that speak straight to the unique issues we have. I’m only halfway through, but so far this book has been a blessing!

Watch this ASAP

One of my sweet sisters in Christ recommended I watch American Gospel: Christ Alone, and I am so glad I did!  My husband and I viewed it on Netflix with our two teenagers, and we all loved it.  American Gospel explores how the prosperity gospel has warped the true gospel message, and the destruction done because of it.

Not only does American Gospel identify the culprits, and explain why their ministry is damning, but it also explains the authentic gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Christian’s responsibility to preach it faithfully and fearlessly.  (It is also available on Amazon Prime Video.)

It was a blessing to get to watch this with our teens because it gave us an opportunity to hear their thoughts on the “word of faith” movement. They were both raised in a Bible-teaching church so they were able to discern truth from error, and were amazed that so many people give ear to these false teachers.

Finding Peace in the Chaos

Stick to the Scriptures

2Corinthians 11:13-15 KJV~ For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Believers and unbelievers alike can be deceived by these prosperity preachers because they are so winsome, they share snippets of scripture, and things that sound like they might be true. The charlatans snatch those verses out of their context, subtly twist them to accomplish their agenda, and succeed at drawing away droves of unsuspecting victims into their web of lies.

Those who don’t study the Bible won’t know the difference, but the heresy is blatantly obvious to those who do. Spiritual discernment takes time and training in truth though, and in our fast-paced society, people are looking for quick-fixes and feel-good messages, not really desiring a deeper understanding of God.

Laziness and a lack of training keep people ignorant of the truth and blindly following the ear-tickling messages of these phonies.

This is why it is so very important to regularly attend a Bible-preaching church, and to get involved in discipleship, where you can have the accountability, fellowship, prayer, and teaching, for your spiritual maturity.  The more scripture that is invested into your heart and mind, the more spiritual discernment you will have.

Learn sound doctrine

If you currently listen to the prosperity gospel preachers that are mentioned in that documentary, I pray that you will take the time to seek the Lord’s guidance in prayer, and search the scriptures to see what is true. Learn sound doctrine.

Take every claim they make to the Bible and get God’s mind on the subject.  Don’t take their word for it, see for yourself who God is, who He says you are, what the gospel is, and what kind of life a disciple of Christ must live.  Doing so will change your life.

Learn how to study the Bible to rightly divide the word, so you can properly interpret and apply it.

Proverbs 3:5-7 KJV~ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

Get a “My Jesus Journal” and find peace in the chaos

I designed and published a tool to help Christian women to know Jesus more intimately. My Jesus Journal focuses your time in the word on learning more about the Lord and cultivate a closer relationship with Christ.

Intended to be used alongside your daily Bible reading, My Jesus Journal has space to record the date, the scriptures you read, and lined spaces to write your observations about Jesus you saw in the text. The bottom of that page has a verse from the KJV Bible about Jesus. The next page has space to write prayers related to what you discovered in your reading. There are also extra prayer pages in the back of the book.

Mark 12:30 tells us to love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, but we cannot love someone we do not know. The more time we spend intentionally seeking Jesus in the pages of scripture, the more we will know Him and love Him. My Jesus Journal aids us in our quest to learn and love and know Jesus more deeply.

Beautiful, portable, and affordable!

If you are looking for help to grow in your knowledge of Jesus, build intimacy into your relationship with Him, and deepen your love for the Lord, then My Jesus Journal is just what you need!

Beautifully designed with your spiritual growth in mind, I perfectly sized My Jesus Journal to fit into your purse, backpack, or diaper bag. You can grow on the go when you use wait times in the Doctor’s office, the carpool line, etc. for Bible study.

My Jesus Journal is extremely affordable, so you can purchase just one for yourself, or consider buying one for your entire ministry, to begin a season of seeking Jesus together. It makes an excellent gift for any Christian woman in your life! Click on the picture to order today:
