In a previous post, I shared what a prudent woman is, and why we need prudence, so that we can be wise, resourceful, and discreet. This is the character a woman of God should have, because it draws people to Jesus instead of pushing them away. A prudent wife is a gift to her husband (Prov. 19:14), she walks circumspectly, and she is a faithful steward of her time, talent, and treasures. But how do we become wise women?
In this post, I’ll cover four things to focus on if you want to know how to be a prudent woman.
Take the Position of Submissive Servant to Be a Prudent Woman
Psalm 105:4 KJV- Seek the LORD, and his strength, seek his face evermore.
In Luke 10:42, Jesus commends Martha’s sister Mary for her choice to seek His face, sit at His feet, and soak up His word. Martha had a choice too, but she was focused on the physical service to the Lord rather than the spiritual sustenance she could receive from Him.
Mary had a heart of worship and Martha had a mind to work. Mary teaches us how to be a prudent woman because worship cultivates wisdom.
Mary’s posture is one of a submissive servant looking up to her Lord. This attitude of humility and surrender is necessary to worship God in spirit and in truth as He desires.
To seek the Lord’s face is to pursue His presence through prayer and worship. Many times we seek His help for healing, prosperity, or vindication, but how often do we desire to know His heart and behold His glory?
God says in Jeremiah 29:13 that we will find Him when we seek Him and search for Him with all our hearts. What a wonderful promise! God is not unapproachable, unattainable, or unknowable. The Almighty God of the universe wants to be known!
Do you want to be a prudent woman? Seek the Lord’s face and worship Him in adoration for His awesomeness.
Give Jesus Preeminence to Be a Prudent Woman
Psalm 27:4 KJV- One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
A prudent woman follows the example of King David, who earnestly pursued the presence of the Lord. It was the one thing he desired. David faced adversity and afflictions with his affection set on things above. He wasn’t perfect, but the Bible calls him a “man after God’s own heart” (1 Sam. 13:14, Acts 13:22) because of his devotion to the Lord.
As busy women, we tend to cram our schedules with activities and appointments, and then we wonder why we’re so stressed or not growing spiritually. When we surrender our schedules and give Jesus the preeminence in our lives, we are well on our way to becoming wise and prudent women.
Preeminence means Jesus comes first. His word directs our choices, His will wins out over ours, and His way is the only way we go. It’s not always easy, and sometimes it’s costly, but Jesus is worth it!
Spiritual growth hinges on whether you give Christ the preeminence in your life or not. Share on X
We have to learn how to prioritize our life in a way that not just makes room for the Lord, but gives him the preeminence if we want to be prudent women.
Prioritize Time with Jesus to Be a Prudent Woman
If you have surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus Christ, you are His, and He is yours. The Lord and His glory should be the priority of your life. He is worthy of the number one position because He earned it.
Jesus died for you so that you could live for Him. Give Him the reverence He deserves!
Make time in your schedule to read the Bible and pray. Let Jesus instruct and inspire you, so you can invest in those around you in the Spirit and not in the flesh.
It takes discipline and sacrifice to maintain quiet time with the Lord. You may have to let go of social media, TV time, or get up earlier in the morning to free up some time to sit at the feet of Jesus. But the eternal rewards are worth anything you have to release.
God is good, He loves you, and He desires close fellowship with you. Purge the dispensable and prioritize the essential to be a prudent woman who brings God glory with her life.
Revelation 3:20 KJV – Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
People Pleasing Has to Go to Be a Prudent Woman
In the story in Luke chapter 10, Martha’s emotional instability didn’t sway Mary. She doesn’t cave to her sister’s pressure to leave fellowship with Jesus to get work done. Mary wasn’t a people pleaser.
People have ideas about how we should spend our time. We’re constantly bombarded with invitations for involvement in ministries, businesses, or causes. Some of them may be good and godly opportunities to invest in, but some of them may not be.
We have to have the discernment to know what is for us, and what to say no to. We have to guard our time with Jesus ferociously if we want to be wise women! Being good stewards of our time, talent, treasures, and temple goes hand-in-hand with becoming the prudent woman that God wants you to be.

Proverbs 4:7 KJV- Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Prudence Requires Mindfulness
If you want to be a prudent and wise woman, then be mindful to have the posture of a servant, give Christ preeminence in your life, prioritize time with Him, and be a good steward. Those are the key components to spiritual growth in any area, really.
It has to matter more to you what God says and what God wants, than what you do. Becoming the woman God saved you to be so that you can shine for Him and share Jesus, starts with a single step in the right direction. Are you willing to take it?
