Are you feeling hopeless right now? I’ve been there. Reading Bible verses about hope reminded me that all my hope is in Jesus, not in anyone or anything else. This is a tremendous help and keeps me out of the pit of depression as God’s word renews my mind and restores my hope.
One of the devices of the devil is discouragement. He wants to drain our hope tanks, and he does that by highlighting all the wrongs in our life and hiding all that’s right. When we’re blinded to the good, the bad becomes overwhelming, and we sink into despair. Once hope is lost, it’s an arduous uphill battle to regain it.
That’s why it is so important to know the word of God and think on the truth. Here are 19 encouraging Bible verses about hope from the King James Version.
KJV Bible Verses About Hope
The word “hope” occurs in 121 verses in the KJV. That’s too many to share in one post, so I’ve chosen 19 scriptures that mention hope in God’s word, hope in the Lord, hope to the end, the hope of eternal life, the hope that is in you, and Jesus is our hope.
Hope in God’s Word
God is trustworthy, and His word is true. Therefore, we can turn to the Bible for help and hope in our time of need. Meditating and memorizing His promises restores lost hope.
Psalm 119:49 KJV – Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.
Psalm 119:81 KJV – My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.
Psalm 119:114 KJV – Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
Psalm 119:116 KJV – Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.
Jesus is Our Hope
The Bible is clear that Jesus is coming back to collect His bride and cleanse this world of wickedness forever. So when the news reports highlight the evil that seems to be prevailing, we can cling to the truth that Jesus is our hope, and this world is not all there is.
1 Thessalonians 1:3 KJV – Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
1 Timothy 1:1 KJV – Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
Titus 2:13 KJV – Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Hope in the Lord
People will always let us down. Even the best of us are flawed humans and will disappoint someone at some point in our lives. When we put our hope in our spouses, leaders, parents, or anyone else to rescue us or complete us, we have misplaced our hope.
We need to hope in the Lord because He alone can meet the deep needs of our souls and make all things work together for our good and His glory.
Psalm 31:24 KJV – Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.
Psalm 130:7 KJV – Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
Psalm 131:3 KJV – Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.
Psalm 146:5 KJV – Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:
Jeremiah 17:7 KJV – Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
Lamentations 3:24 KJV – The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
Hope to the End
Are you weary and worn? Don’t lose hope! The Lord is on your side. His love for you is fierce and He is fighting for you!
1 Peter 1:13 KJV – Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
Hebrews 3:6 KJV – But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
Hebrews 6:11 KJV – And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
The Hope of Eternal Life
Our faith in the gospel saves us from our sins and secures a spot in Heaven for us. Every true believer in Christ has eternal life. Though our bodies fail us and our life on this earth will end, because of Jesus, we trust that we will be resurrected and live forever.
Titus 1:2 KJV – In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Titus 3:7 KJV – That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
The Hope That is in You
Hope isn’t something we should keep to ourselves. Once we have received Jesus as Lord and Savior and are forgiven and free, it’s our job to share the good news of the gospel with others.
1 Peter 3:15 KJV – But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
Share These Bible Verses About Hope
There is definitely a hope deficit in our world today. Depression is on the rise, and people are desperate for true and lasting hope. That hope comes from Jesus, but they don’t know that if we don’t tell them.
Let’s be hope dealers and share the scriptures on hope, so others can walk in peace and victory, too!

I designed and published a tool to help Christian women to know Jesus more intimately.
My Jesus Journal focuses your time in the word on learning more about the Lord and cultivating a closer relationship with Christ.
Intended to be used alongside your daily Bible reading, My Jesus Journal has space to record the date, the scriptures you read, and lined spaces to write your observations about Jesus you saw in the text. The bottom of that page has a verse from the KJV Bible about Jesus. The next page has space to write prayers related to what you discovered in your reading. There are also extra prayer pages in the back of the book.
Mark 12:30 tells us to love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, but we cannot love someone we do not know. The more time we spend intentionally seeking Jesus in the pages of scripture, the more we will know Him and love Him. My Jesus Journal aids us in our quest to learn and love and know Jesus more deeply.
